Through Broken Hearts and Hopeful Souls: A Poem of Vigilance in Love
I never let my guard down, I’m a mysterious kind of lover,
Never been an open book but don’t you judge me by the cover.
And I’m afraid of giving you my fragile heart, not even slightly,
I was heartbroken in February, that’s why I march lightly.
I collected all the pieces and welded them together all alone,
But just like a house made of glass it will not resist another stone.
And I know it’s not fair to think everyone would be that cruel,
Don’t want to wake up on the first of the month as April’s fool.
I never let my guard down, but you appear to be the exception,
The four chambers of my heart voted and you have won the election.
Even though I’m still troubled by the battle scars of yesterday,
I’m willing to take the gamble and let the chips fall where they may.
I see the migrating birds return and the flowers of spring blossom,
I’m cautiously optimistic that what comes next could be awesome.
After I have watched thousands of sunsets with a melancholic tune,
Would you like to have my company in a golden sunrise of June?
